Over 30 officials representing organisations ranging from equestrian centres and hockey clubs to universities and borough councils, were taken on a tour of the airport so they could better understand how their close proximity to the airport could help them attract teams to use their facilities. The group were shown various aspects of the Stansted operation, including how the airport provides access for the disabled, how it manages the airfield and how its cargo operation works. Stephen Dupree, head of sport, active lifestyles and wellbeing at Anglia Ruskin University, said: "Anglia Ruskin University was delighted to be selected on its own merit as a pre-games training camp venue. We also enjoy being part of the Chelmsford Olympic consortium, which provides us with a fantastic opportunity to support local residents and businesses. “Having Stansted Airport nearby could be just what the Chelmsford Olympic consortium needs to attract a team to our county." Spencer Wilcox, Chairman of Chelmsford Hockey Club, said: “Chelmsford Hockey Club, the East of England’s premier club, which has a thriving youth section, has been included in the London 2012 pre-games training camp guide. The club is just a 30 minute drive from Stansted Airport and will provide a fine venue for the world’s leading teams to hone their skills in the final build up to 2012.” Julia Gregory, Stansted’s transport planning manager, said: “It was a pleasure to host the event and give the group a flavour of the work that takes place at Stansted Airport. We wish all the organisations that have been selected as pre-games training camps every success in encouraging teams to visit their facilities.” |
