Stansted Airport Chamber of Commerce

Both members of the SACC together with non members attended the airside tour yesterday, which was kindly hosted by London Stansted Airport.

Following the issue of security passes, the party boarded a coach passing through the well organised security check points onto the airfield.

Steven Dickson, Airfield Operations Manager at Stansted Airport shared his knowledge of the history of the airport as well as current development projects, pointing out matters of interest.

Stopping off at the airport's fire training centre, the party we abe to see first hand how the firefighters stay prepared for that criticual moment when their assistance might be required.  A mock up aircraft was set ablaze with firemen rushing to extinguish it in a speedy yet controlled manner.  Just yesterday morning they had been called out to offer assistance when an aircraft made a successful emergency landing at the airport.

Touring around the Northside of the airport, the party were able to view Sir Alan Sugar's personal jet along with other privately owned aircraft. 

Heading back to the terminal side and to the as was the MAXjet departure lounge, the party then enjoyed a superb buffet together with refreshments kindly provided by BAA and enjoyed the views over airport and runway before making their way back to the terminal building to make their way home.
